Kofu TMC Meeting Report #10 / 甲府TMC第10回例会レポート
On Saturday, July 27, we held the 10th Regular Meeting at Yamanashi Prefectural Library. We welcomed 11 guests, including Non-Toastmaster guests and Toastmaster guests from other Toastmasters clubs. Some of today's guests were present at our special event on June 29! Thank you for coming back!
7月27日（土）、山梨県立図書館で第10回定例会を開催しました。 トーストマスターズ以外のゲストや他のトーストマスターズクラブのトーストマスターズゲストを含む11名のゲストを迎えました。 今日のゲストの何人かは6月29日の私達の特別イベントに出席された方でした！戻ってきてくれてありがとう！
In the beginning, our President made a short speech introducing our club. Also, he provided information about an event “Global Festa Yamanashi 2019,” which will hold on September 23. Kofu TMC and Ginza TMC are jointly making an event in the Global Festa. And TM D.V.G provides a workshop. TM D.V.G. is a very experienced Toastmaster and former 2014 Champion of Public Speaking in Japan (District 76). If you have time, please join us at the festival!

初めに、会長は私達のクラブを紹介する短いスピーチを行いました。 また、9月23日に開催されるイベント「Global Festa Yamanashi 2019」についても情報共有しました。甲府TMCと銀座TMCが共同でグローバルフェスタでイベントを開催します。 そしてTM D.V.Gはワークショップを開催します。 TM D.V.G. 非常に経験豊かなトーストマスターであり、2014年の元パブリックスピーチチャンピオン（第76地区）です。 もし時間があれば、フェスティバルにぜひご参加ください。

Then, we moved on to the Educational Session. Toastmaster of the Day (TMOD) held this session. TMOD for this time was TM F.O. who became our member right after Kofu TMC established last year. With her fluent English, she handled the meeting very smoothly without any problems. Thank you!

M R.K. introduced the word of the Day. He chose the word “SUMMER.” She provided 100% timely word of the day! The word of the day is the role that the person introduces a single word to focus on today's meeting. And the attendees try to use this word as many times as possible during the meeting.

Next, Ah-Counter explained his role: Ah-Counter counts unnecessary words during speeches, such as ah, um, or well. Speakers tend to use the clutch word unintentionally. Those unnecessary words sometimes become obstacles to deliver one’s message accurately. Next, the Grammarian explained his role. Grammarian checks grammatical mistakes or useful phrases during the meeting. The Grammarian needs to inform the grammatical error properly.

Then, we moved on to the main part of the meeting, called the Prepared speech session. The 1st speaker was TM S.S. The title of his speech was “The Columbus’s Egg—how can we store money?”. He created his speech based on following the Pathways manual, “Presentation Mastery” Project 2 “Evaluation and Feedback (1).” In this project, a speaker chooses a topic on one’s interests and make a speech. After his speech, an evaluator provides feedback to the speaker. The speaker makes his next speech based on the evaluator's feedback.

The 2nd Speaker was TM S.K.. her project was Pathways “Innovative Planning” Project 1 “The Ice Breaker.” The title was “Beginning is from a present.” The speech is the first project in the manual. When a new member joins a club, the one starts making speeches from the Ice Breaker project. She is a veteran member of Japanese clubs but challenged making an English speech here in Kofu!

The 3rd Speaker for today was TM Y.K. The title was “Beans.” Her project was “Understanding Vocal Variety” in Pathways manual “Presentation Mastery.” She introduced short Rakugo story “Miso-Beans (Miso-Mame)” as if she is a Rakugo performer. She filled with her speech techniques, such as vocal variety, speaking speed, accents, and so on.
今日の3番目のスピーカーはTM Y.Kでした。 タイトルは「Beans」。パスウェイのマニュアル「Presentation Mastery」の「Understanding Vocal Variety」。彼女は落語家のように短い落語「味噌豆」を紹介しました。 彼女は、声のバラエティ、話すスピード、アクセントなどのスピーチのテクニックでいっぱいでした。
After the short break, we moved on to the Table Topics Session. Table Topics means impromptu speeches. A person who is called “Topicsmaster” asks questions and assigns one of the attendees to make a short speech answering the question.

In today's meeting, many newcomers who are not familiar with Toastmasters activities. Therefore, Topicsmaster TM R.K assigned one of the experienced Toastmaster TM E.D. He delivered a model Table Topics Speech. The first question was, “What do you like the most about Toastmasters?” TM E.D. made a perfect speech answering the question.

After that, three guests challenged Table Topics. The questions were: Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games are a year away. Are you looking forward to it? Why or why not? The rain season almost over and summer is just around the corner. Do you have any plans for this summer? What are you going to do? Or what do you want to do? Please tell us your best memory in summer.

General Evaluator was TM S.M., and he led the session of Evaluation Session. General Evaluation session consists of two parts; evaluations for speech evaluators, and evaluation of the meeting itself.
General EvaluatorはTM S.M.であり、彼は評価セッションのセッションを主導しました。 一般評価セッションは2つの部分から成ります。 スピーチ評価者のための評価、および会議自体の評価。
The 1st Evaluator was TM K.M., and she evaluated the 1st Speaker TM S.S. She observed TM S.S. very carefully and pointed out various good points. He didn’t use notes. He used eye-contacts, voice productions, and provides a useful topic. Her suggestion was to try to walk around while speaking. She explained how to engage in the audience.

The 2nd Evaluator was TM Y.K., and he evaluated TM S.K. He commented on the details of the speech and gave positive feedbacks—the topic, organization, voice production, and episodes included in his speech.

The 3rd Evaluator was TM K.O. And she is a guest from other Club in Fussa. She evaluated our 3rd Speaker, mentioning her vocal variety, speech organization, and body language which suited the story, including some jokes. Her comments on the speech were that she didn’t need to apologize that she couldn’t prepare well -her speech was excellent. This feedback seems to be unique, and we frequently get this kind of useful feedback at Toastmasters.

After the speech evaluations, we moved on to the evaluation session of the meeting. The report started from Word of the Day, Ah-Counter, and Grammarian. The word of the day reported how many people used word of the day “summer” during the meeting. Ah-Counter reported how many each individual used unnecessary words (ah, um, etc.) during the meeting. Grammarian reported grammatical errors and useful phrases used during the meeting. Finally, our General Evaluator TM S.M. evaluated the meeting. He commented on the very details of the meeting by sharing the achievements of each member and guests.

After the evaluation session, TMOD TM F.O. announced the winners of the Best Evaluator, the Best Table Topics Speaker and the Best Speaker. After each session, we voted for the best speakers. The winners were:

Best Table Topics Speaker: Mr. M (guest)
Best Speaker: TM Y.K.

At the end of the meeting, we had an Induction Ceremony for a new member. When a new member becomes a member of this club, we hold an Induction Ceremony. This time, Mr. I.M. became a member, and now he is called Toastmaster (TM) I.M.! Also, an experienced Toastmaster, TM M.T., was assigned as his mentor to support TM I.M.’s Toastmasters activities.

In the end, our guests made short comments about how they felt about the meeting. We had many guests today. It was great to hear that they enjoyed our meeting. Thank you very much for visiting us, and thank you for your warm comments!
